Institute Description :

Government College of Technology, Coimbatore also known as Arthur Hope College of Technology was started in July 1945 in accordance with the general policy of the then Government of Madras to give high priority to technical education. The college was later shifted from its former premises to its current premise in 1950 and was renamed to Government College of Technology, Coimbatore.

FACTS

GCT is affiliated to the University of Madras 1951.
The college introduced a Mechanical Engineering branch in the year 1952.
The college revised its Engineering studies syllabus and introduced the five year semester plan in the academic year 1968-69.
GCT introduced postgraduate degree courses in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from 1971.
The college also offers part time courses in various subjects.
